2013 - Japan - Wireless - IEEE802.11ac

The Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the publication of the technical standard for devices supporting IEEE802.11ac by the end of march, 2013.
We'll follow-up with more information as soon as the final version has been published and certification processes for this category of devices have started at "wireless" CABs such as TELEC.

Japan regulatory Info - IEEE802.11ac The final version of the technical conditions for IEEE802.11ac have been published in the japanese government official gazette. (March 27th, 2013)

Certification for 5GHz wireless LAN devices with 80MHz or 160MHz wide bandwidth has started in Japan (unlicensed low-power category)

Since march 27, 2013, and in prevision of the implementation of the future IEEE802.11ac, it is now possible to obtain Japanese certification for 5GHz wireless LAN devices with 80MHz or 160MHz wide bandwidth. (unlicensed low-power category)
Certifications can be delivered by Certification Accredited Bodies (CAB) appointed by the Japanese government.

The existing "Technical Conditions(*1) " were updated as follows:

Frequency Bands :
- 5.15-5.25GHz and 5.25-5.35GHz indoor,
- 5.47-5.725GHz indoor and outdoor
Bandwidth Categories :
- 20/40/80/160MHz
Max. Conducted Power
- 20MHz BW : 10mW/MHz (DSSS, OFDM) or 10mW (single carrier)
- 40MHz BW : 5mW/MHz
- 80MHz BW : 2.5mW/MHz
- 160MHz BW : 1.25mW/MHz

Max. Antenna Gain
- Not specified
Max. EIRP for 5.15-5.25GHz and 5.25-5.35GHz indoor device
- 20MHz BW : 10mW/MHz
- 40MHz BW : 5mW/MHz
- 80MHz BW : 2.5mW/MHz
- 160MHz BW : 1.25mW/MHz

Max. EIRP for 5.47-5.725GHz indoor and outdoor device
- 20MHz BW : 50mW/MHz
- 40MHz BW : 25mW/MHz
- 80MHz BW : 12.5mW/MHz
- 160MHz BW : 6.25mW/MHz

Carrier Sensing
- Required
DFS and TPC for 5.15-5.25GHz device
- Not required
DFS and TPC for 5.25-5.35GHz indoor, and 5.47-5.725GHz indoor and outdoor device
- Required (for master unit only)
Other items such as
- Frequency error
- Occupied bandwidth
- Spurious during emission and reception
- Adjacent channel leakage

(*1) Technical Conditions is the way most japanese certification requirements are named, and comes from the Japanese "Gijutsu Kijun" or "Gijutsuteki Joken", some calling it "Giteki".
